The great news is that there are actually effective exercises you can do indoors. In fact, in a widely-acclaimed Youtube Video, a health and fitness experts talked about how fitness can only be truly sustainable through simple exercise. The most effective exercise to lose weight is the one you can easily do at home, consistently – not just for a month or so. There is nothing wrong with trying out all these cute and fancy challenges from what you see on Tiktok or from your favourite influencers. We can all use a bit of fun, anyways!
However, keep in mind that in order to get to your goal body, it will take actual commitment and hard work. To get started, here are effective workouts at home that you can try!
Walking
We are pretty sure you were expecting something more complex. But surprise, it is walking! Walking is a surefire way to get into shape because it is something that you can do literally from anywhere. As a matter of fact, you are probably doing it all the time inside your home, too! You can use a treadmill, walk around your house or if you have space in your backyard – that works too. If you have just started working for fitness, try doing it for 10 minutes first. As you go, keep adding more minutes by twos or by fives until you reach thirty minutes. To challenge yourself further, quicken the pace or add some steps.
Lest you forget, walking is one of the most effective ways to lose weight.
Squats
While it is particularly known to help you grow a nice and firm butt, squats are a good workout because it is able to target several muscle groups all at once. It puts to work your quads, your hamstrings and your glutes simultaneously. As simple as it seems, doing squats can be a little confusing. Here is a quick runthrough : Keep your feet shoulder-width apart and your back straight. Lower your body down as if you are going to sit down on a chair. Make sure your weight is evenly distributed.
Start off with 12 reps until you get the form right. There are a lot of different squats you can try : cossack squats, pistol squats, sumo squats, squat jumps and more!
Lunges
Similar to squats, the lunges are also some of the most efficient exercises that you can do. It improves your mobility as well as your balance – two of the most important things to develop if you are really serious about getting in your best shape.
Here is how to do it: Take a wide step forward, keep your back straight and bend your front knee to about 90 degrees. Make sure your weight is kept at the back of your toes and drop your back knee toward the floor. Make sure that your back knee does not touch the ground. Also, just like squats – there are different variations of the lunges that you can try.
Crunches
You may be about there seeing all these fancy workouts on your feed but believe us when we say that crunches are the most effective exercises for abs. To get started, lie on your back and keep your feet flat on the ground. Contract your abdominal muscles (abs) by pressing your lower back down in one smooth move. Raise your head first, then your neck and then your shoulders and the rest of your upper back off the floor.
Planks
Here is a rule of thumb : if it is too easy, you are probably doing it wrong. Planks work your core, making it one of the most effective exercises for abs. It works your entire body from your arms down to your feet.
Here is how to do it : Plank your hands directly under your shoulders, much like you are about to do a push up. Ground your toes into the floor and start squeezing your glutes to get a more stable form. Neutralize the stress on your neck by looking at the floor or somewhere else. Try and hold for 20 seconds.
