As a female adult who is looking to build her own family, pregnancy is probably going to be one of the most exciting occurrences to ever take place in your life. As you may already know, carrying another person in your belly is not as easy as it seems when talking about it. It entails being extra mindful of all your decisions – especially when it comes to your health and wellness. 

They say the best foods to eat when you’re pregnant are the ones which can provide you with nutrients that will also benefit the development of your baby. Quite frankly, we could not agree more! Like we already said – it is important to make the right choices when it comes to your food. 

That said, here is a list of highly nutritious foods that are recommended for soon-to-be moms. These are ingredients that you can use for your pregnancy diet menu. Keep in mind that embarking on this journey  means following a diet that is not too repetitive, balanced and nutritious. ‘

Dairy Products 

Because another human-in-the-making is growing in your tummy, you will need to consume extra protein and calcium to meet both your needs. 

There are two-types of high quality protein that you can find in dairy products. These are casein and whey. Aside from that, dairy is also the single best dietary source of calcium. It is also able to provide copious amounts of various B vitamins, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc. 

Two examples of dairy products which are also considered as highly nutritious foods are yogurt, especially greek yogurt. 

Eggs 

Like we’ve mentioned several times in our previous articles, eggs are indeed some of the most highly nutritious food you will ever find. This is because it contains a little bit of almost every single nutrient your body needs. 

Aside from high-quality protein and fat, these yolk-filled white shells also contain Choline – a nutrient that is essential to different bodily functions – including brain development and overall health. 

Broccoli 

Oh, and also – other kinds of dark, leafy greens. Broccoli and the likes of kale, spinach to name a few – are packed with nutrients that most women need. Among these are Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin A, Calcium, Iron, Folate and Potassium. 

On top of that, these vegetables also contain antioxidants to give you better immunity and digestion. Studies also suggest that consuming these on the regular can result in lower birth weight. 

Salmon 

Salmon is listed in most, if not all, healthy diet lists and for good reason. This fish in particular is very rich in essential omega-3 fatty acids, a nutrient that most people are not getting enough of in their daily diet. 

Having sufficient supply of omega-3 during pregnancy is very important, not only to your overall health but also your baby’s brain development. Aside from that, it is also a natural source of Vitamin D. 

On a side note, raw food, including sashimi (bad news, we know!) is on the list of what not to eat during pregnancy. It is also advised to keep salmon intake in moderation because of its mercury content. 

Water 

Surprise, surprise! Water is on the list, too. Did you know that during pregnancy, your blood volume can increase by up to 50 ounces? That is precisely why it is of utmost importance to stay hydrated. 

Constipation and urinary tract infections are also quite common during pregnancy, by staying hydrated – you can keep these problems at bay. 

What Not To Eat During Pregnancy

Now that you have gotten some idea as to what highly nutritious foods you need to keep in your pregnancy diet menu, it is just as important to know which stuff to avoid. What fruits to avoid during pregnancy? Which snacks should you steer clear from? Here’s a list.

  • Raw Meat, Raw Fish and anything undercooked
